By now, it’s likely you’ve heard of EpicMix, a photo sharing and online application available at Canyons Resort. But do you know what it is? And more importantly, do you know how to use it? Don’t worry if you said no, you’re not alone and I’m here to give you a quick 101 on how to get set up and start using it!
From the EpicMix website…“EpicMix is an online and mobile application that captures your ski and snowboard experience.” Essentially, you can track your day(s) through vertical feet skied, chair lifts taken, restaurants eaten at, photos taken, total days on the mountain and even see how your kids are progressing in ski or snowboard school. After signing up for a free account, you can access your EpicMix dashboard from any computer or mobile device. In addition to photos, social sharing and tracking your progress in ski or snowboard school, you can also check snow conditions, view webcams and access trail maps from any Vail Resorts.
Some highlights of the application:
Quite possibly my favorite part of the EpicMix experience. Mountain photographers (you can’t miss them in their neon green uniforms) are stationed all over Canyons Resort to take your picture by yourself or with friends and family. Take one or take 20, there is no obligation on your end to purchase them. All the photos taken of you are accessible via your dashboard and you can share them on Facebook and Twitter free of charge. You can also choose to spend $40 and download the high resolution images to keep. All images, all season, all resorts for $40. It’s a genius idea and one that me and my family have already started to take advantage of!!
Pins are definitely my son’s favorite part of EpicMix. You can earn virtual pins by exploring different parts of the mountain. You’re rewarded pins for various challenges that range everything from vertical feet, terrain covered, number of days on the hill and having your photo taken. My favorite one I’ve earned thus far is the Dolly Parton 9-5: I rode a chair lift between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning and one between 3:30 and 4:00 in the afternoon.
If you or a family member is participating in ski or snowboard school, you can track the progress from your personal dashboard. Both children and adults in either private or group lessons can track achievements online. It’s a great way to know the ability of each student going into future lessons and a great motivator to see how you’ve progressed. Ski and snowboard instructors will award certified pins when the student masters various levels of skills. You can then review your achievements online and share results via Twitter or Facebook with friends and family.
