Bike racks are now outnumbering ski racks in the supermarket parking lot. Your skis and snowboards are collecting dust in the corner while you grab your bike or golf clubs and head out the door. And while snow may still be clinging to the top of 9990 and Square Top, the trails down low are prime for summer action. They say admitting is the first step, so here it goes – it’s summer. Of course, is it really that hard to let go of winter when summer can be so great? If you’re shaking your head yes, allow me to drop some knowledge on you about what Canyons has going on this summer. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll change your mind.
In case you haven’t heard, the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) made Park City, Utah their first ever gold-level ride center. Translation: There is no other city or region that offers the endless amount of mountain biking options for every level of rider. Situated perfectly in the midst of this mountain biking mecca, Canyons Resort is no different. From short lift-accessed loops, to steep, technical, singletrack, our 20+ acres of cross country mountain biking trails have got what you’re looking for whether you’re a seasoned vet in the saddle or a beginner laying on the brakes.
Trail Tip: Accessed from the mid-mountain or base areas, Ambush Trail is a locals favorite.
Looking for less pedaling and more speed? Canyons Resort Bike Park, Utah’s only lift-serviced flow riding park, offers four gravity trails and a skills park. What’s a gravity/flow trail? The short answer – a trail that is built using berms, jumps, and features to allow the rider to flow down the trail without pedaling or braking. The long answer – I’ve got a whole post dedicated to that coming soon.
Get your gear: Full-suspension, cross country and Downhill mountain bikes can be rented at Canyon Mountain Sports in the resort village.
Zip Tour Adventure
If you like the way Canyons looks from the ground, imagine how things look with a bird’s eye view. New to our summer operations this year, the Zip Tour Adventure offers a three-zip tour that’ll take you from learning the ropes on the demo tour to zipping across the 2,111 foot span between Lookout Peak and Red Pine Lodge and the Lookout Zip.
Zip Tip: Whether you have a need for speed or not, you’re able to control your speed on the zip lines via a braking system.
Get your gear: Tickets and gear can be picked up at Canyon Mountain sports.
Family Putting Course
This isn’t your run of the mill putt putt course. You won’t find a clown’s mouth and you won’t find uber cheesy course decor. In it’s place you’ll find an 18-hole mountain themed course complete with sand traps, water features, and greens that are sure to entertain everyone in the family. Plus, with a top-of-the-line PING putter and custom scorecard, you’ll feel like a pro no matter what your score.
Tip: I’m not a golfer. Consult your local pro for helpful tips.
If you’re looking to keep it local, the Park City Farmer’s Market is the place to do it. From fresh produce and freshly baked goods to arts, crafts, and other local vendors, the options are endless and always delicious. Starting June 6, make sure to make time time to stop by the Cabriolet parking lot every Wednesday from 12-6pm.
Tip: The homemade, wood fired pizza from Volker’s is tasty.
Fact: Canyons is known for bringing sweet tunes to Park City during the summer as part of their Saturday Summer Concert Series. This summer we’re stepping it up and bringing you even more entertainment with the addition of our Friday Night Beats & BBQ series. How do you decide which one is for you? Simply put, if you like good music, they both are. Feel free to lock us in as your place to be on Friday and Saturday nights. But seriously, if you’re looking for more people and bigger, regional/national acts, than the Saturday Summer Concert Series is right up your alley. If you’re looking for smaller crowds, local acts, and tasty BBQ, than Friday Night Beats & BBQ is the ticket. Here’s a look at how the lineups are shaping up so far:
Tip: For prime Saturday Summer Concert Series seating, pack a picnic, get there early, and claim your territory.
Sundance Institute Film Series
First music. Now movies. This summer Canyons will play host to the 2012 Sundance Institute Summer Series. There will be free screenings of three films, presenting a mix of films selected from audience and critical favorites from previous Sundance Film Festivals. With a strong history of serving as a cultural catalyst by bringing films and artists to Utah, the nonprofit Sundance Institute is once again joining forces with local organizations to create memorable film events. Here’s a look at the flicks:
- Thursday, June 21: Under African Skies
- Thursday, July 12: CSNY Deja Vu
- Thursday, July 26: Filly Brown
