From Alaska to Norway, check out “Ticket to ...

October is here.  The temperatures are dropping.  There is a nip in the air. You know what that means!?  Warren Miller Entertainment is premiering their newest film to ring in the winter season!  The 64th of it’s kind, Ticket To Ride premieres at Abravanel Hall on October 11th.   I have the pleasure and privilege of appearing in these films for the second time.  Last year it took place at my favorite ski area in the world, Canyons Resort for Flow State. This year, Helly Hansen took me to their hinterland and I skied the fjords of western Norway with fellow HH Ambassador Aurelien Ducroz.

Dusk in Alesund, Norway.

From the moment we touched down in Alesund, it was breathtaking.  Although snow conditions and weather were a struggle, it was still an adventure of a lifetime.  We skied off a fishing boat in the Sagafjord, toured through Fjaerland, skied off the Geirangerfjord, and even got to check out the awesome beauty and terrain of Stranda and Stryn.  Words cannot explain the truly unique experience of skiing these fjords- these huge mountains just plummeting down to the ocean inlets.  I felt instantly at home with the people and the landscape, maybe due to my predominantly Skandinavian heritage.  But unlike the Vikings – instead of an axe to feed me, animal hides to clothe me, and a longship to take me, I had my Astis Mittens, Icelantic Nomad RKRs, and Helly Hansen H2 Flow technology to protect and guide me!  However, there was more than one instance when I was looking down a steep, sketchy line that I drew strength from the Vikings grit and fortitude.  Life, in almost every way, is nothing like it was then- except for those fjords.  And when I skied down them that never fully left my mind…

That’s me cruising the fjords near Stryn at sunset.
